Do Not Lose Heart Oval Clasp Bracelet
What do we do when tragedy strikes? When the bad news comes? When hurt and misery become far too friendly companions in our lives? The more we see and the longer we sit in it, the questions grow. Why this? Why now? Why them? Why me? What can I do? Why isn’t anything changing? How long, Lord? As we look at our circumstances, as we wait in the silence, our spirit grows weary.
John Piper encourages the suffering heart so well with his words. “Every millisecond of your pain from the fallen nature or fallen man, every millisecond of your misery in the path of obedience is producing a peculiar glory you will get because of that. It wasn’t meaningless. It’s doing something. Of course you can’t see what it’s doing. Don’t look to what is seen. Don’t say it’s meaningless. It’s working for you an eternal weight of glory. Therefore, do not lose heart. But take these truths and day by day focus on them. Preach them to yourself every morning. Get alone with God and preach his word into your mind until your heart sings with confidence that you are new and cared for.”
Though our world may shake and our spirits lose their strength, we do not lose heart. Underneath it all is a God who is doing something. A God who sees and knows. A God who is unphased by our perceived limitations of Him and operates beyond the boundaries of our timelines. A God who can handle the doubt we have as our hearts crush within us. A God who enters into our darkness and weeps with us. So we look not at what is seen, but hang on to that which is unseen. May a new song rise up as you take courage. Therefore, do not lose heart.
